First Runtime Upgrade Proposal

Hey Validators!

We are getting ready to propose our first runtime upgrade for the council to vote on this week. We are adding 2 main things:

  1. Indicies pallet for better compatibility with other substrate tooling
  2. Identity pallet for validator visibility

The upgrade will be proposed to Flint and Amber testnets before finally proposing to mainnet. You will not have to prepare for this upgrade but, if successful, you should pull down the new binary to match the runtime version with the native version.

Timeline:

  • Flint: Wednesday 6 May - runtime upgrade proposed by EOD (CET time), download new binary and restart validators by Friday 8 May
  • Amber: Friday 8 May - runtime upgrade proposed by EOD (CET time), download new binary and restart validators by Monday 11 May
  • Mainnet: Wednesday 13 May - runtime upgrade proposed by EOD (CET time), download new binary and restart validators by Friday 15 May

We will tag the release in our git repository by Wednesday 6 May EOD

We are running into some issues in our custom Polkadot UI version, which we hope to get solved in the upcoming hours. Most likely the upgrade on Flint will not be triggered and executed today, but EOD tomorrow CET time. We will keep posted on the progress here and the binary to use.

We just successfully run our first runtime upgrade in Flint moving from chain version 226 to 227 using substrate’s built in governance system.

Feel free to proceed to upgrade your nodes in Flint at your earliest convenience.
